Description	The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) is a longitudinal population-based survey, first funded in 1995, which examines the health of over 57,000 Australian women. The project was designed to explore factors that influence health among women who are broadly representative of the entire Australian population. ALSWH goes beyond a narrow perspective that equates women's health with reproductive and sexual health, and takes a comprehensive view of all aspects of health throughout women's lifespan. The first survey was conducted in 1996, and covered three groups, the 1973-1978 cohort, the 1946-1951 cohort, and the 1921-1926 cohort. In 2013, a new cohort of young women, aged 18-23 and known as the 1989-95 cohort, were recruited. Each cohort receives different questionnaires, which vary in the types of questions asked, but in essence cover issues regarding overall physical and emotional health, use of health services, education and employment status, drug and/or alcohol use, diet, exercise, and family situation. This particular dataset refers to Survey 8 of the 1946-1951 cohort and is a part of the Core Data Release. Some data in this data release were modified to maintain the confidentiality of ALSWH respondents.

Series	The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) is a longitudinal study of over 57,000 women, and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Three cohorts who were aged 18-23, 45-50 and 70-75 were recruited in 1996, and a fourth cohort, aged 18-23, were recruited in 2012/2013. The ALSWH examines demographic, social, physical, psychological, and behavioural variables and their effect on major aspects of women’s health and well-being and health service use. The surveys cover major diagnosed diseases, symptoms, health behaviours, use of health services and medications, and a range of factors relating to psychological well-being, social roles, and life events. Since its inception ALSWH has provided invaluable data about the health of women across the lifespan, and informed federal and state government policies across a wide range of issues.

• All copies of the ALSWH Datasets, whether full or partial, must be stored securely and protected by the use of firewalls, automatic screen locking and/or secure encrypted pathways.
• All copies of any ALSWH Dataset no longer needed must be destroyed.
• The authorised user is responsible for the ALSWH Datasets until all copies in their control have been destroyed AND ALSWH has been informed of their destruction.

2. ANALYSIS:
Data analysis must be conducted according to recognised standards. Authorised users should familiarise themselves with the datasets, the ‘Notes for Collaborators using ALSWH Data’, the Data Dictionary, and the Data Dictionary Supplement, all of which are available from: https://dataverse.ada.edu.au/dataverse/alswh_core_release.

3. USAGE:
• Commercial use of ALSWH data is not permitted.
• No attempt must be made to identify individuals in any Dataset.
• If spontaneous recognition occurs, the identity of any person within the Dataset must not be shared.
• Unit record data must not be shared with anyone who is not an authorised user of the same Dataset, with authorised users being only those researchers listed on the approved application.
• The ALSWH Dataset must not be matched, shared, linked, integrated or merged with other Datasets.

4. PUBLICATION:
• All details of published or finalised research must be provided to ALSWH by email (alswh@uq.edu.au).
• Any Unit Record Data or any research material that could lead to respondent identification must not be published.
• The appropriate Dataset acknowledgement must be included in all research materials.
• ALSWH will supply details (names and institutions only) of all approved data users to the Human Research Ethics Committee with oversight of the Study. These details will also be listed in the ALSWH Annual Report.

5. NOTIFICATION:

• Change of personal details, including institutional affiliation
• Change or addition to intended research
• Change in expected completion date of research
• Terminating access to the Dataset
