Description

The COVID-19 Pandemic Adjustment Survey (CPAS) is a longitudinal research study investigating how Australian families are being affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The study aims to investigate the week-by-week impacts of social distancing and other measures introduced to control the spread of COVID-19. We know there are risks for those families living with chronic stress and social isolation. This study will aim to provide timely information and tools for successful clinical and public health interventions to support families during and after the pandemic.

Characteristics of Data Collection Situation

Parents completed an online self-report survey during ‘stage three’ COVID-19 restrictions in April 2020 and then were followed approximately every 2-4 weeks up until April 2021.

Actions to Minimize Losses

Attrition bias: We will use a range of evidence-based cohort retention strategies to minimise attrition. Participants who open the baseline survey, consent to participate,and who have provided their contact details but did not complete the full version of the online baseline survey will be sent an email reminder about completing the survey 24 hours later. Participants will be sent an email reminder 24 hours after each fortnightly longitudinal survey is sent. If participants have not completed a survey or made contact with the study team over a period of three consecutive surveys, the team will use a range of methods to attempt to re-engage participants in the study. This may include sending an additional follow-up email, sending an SMS reminder and/or calling the participant on their mobile phone number. Confounder bias: We will adjusting for key SES and demographic factors in all analyses. Measurement bias: We will use gold-standard measures, many of which will provide international comparability, to ensure the most accurate classifications possible.Missing data bias: We will use the most relevant technique per analysis (e.g., multiple imputation and maximum likelihood) to account for item-level missing data patterns.
