WEL's history survey was conducted in 2002 at the Australian National University and funded by the Australian Research Council. 2002 marked WEL's thirtieth birthday, as well as the centenary of most women's right to vote in Australian Federal elections. The WELL History Project Team considered it as a perfect time to look back over the establishment and development of WEL, and gauge how effectively it has influenced policy and politics in the last 30 years. A lot has been written about WEL in the press, and in popular and academic publications, some of which have reinforced myths and stereotypes about WEL and its members. One aim of the project was to break new ground by producing a book based on up-to-date research and comprehensive sources. (2002-11-14)
