Description
| As part of Staff in Australia's Schools, 2006-2007 survey, there were four online surveys conducted to provide a detailed picture of the Australian teacher and school leader workforces, and to gather information to assist in future planning. The surveys covered teachers and leaders (principals, deputy/vice principals) in primary and secondary schools. They were asked about their qualifications, the reasons they became teachers, current position, and professional learning activities. The surveys with teachers also asked about the respondent's career in teaching, activities outside teaching, future career intentions, and views on teaching, while the surveys with leaders also asked about the preparation for the leadership role, the respondent's career in schools, activities outside teaching, future career intentions, views on the leadership role, and staffing in the respondent's school. Background variables included age, gender and country of birth. |

| Staff in Australia's Schools: The Staff in Australia's Schools project, commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Education and undertaken by the Australian Council for Educational Research in collaboration with the Australia College of Educators, gathered information from secondary and primary school teachers and leaders across the country. It aimed to address key gaps in the data available to characterise the teaching profession to support workforce planning. The reports produced through the SIAS project provide a wide range of comprehensive data and advice on a number of aspects relating to teacher and school leader workforce issues, such as attraction and retention of teachers, staff shortages and professional learning. |
