Description	In this omnibus survey, topics investigated were tenure, duration and location of residence in current and previous dwelling, occurrence of disability in household members, opinions on child care, ideal family size, contraception, family planning services and abortion advice services. Additional topics investigated were ratings and use of Canberra radio, attitudes to proposals for the constitutional development of the Australian Capital Territory, voting intentions in Legislative Assembly and House of Representative elections, opinions on local and Federal political leaders, current and future economic conditions, and newspaper readership. Background variables are age, sex, marital status and birthplace for the workforce data, and income and educational level for the individual data.

Time Method	One-time cross-sectional study - partial replication (Questions on the occurrence of disabilities were repeated in the September 1978 and March 1979 rounds of the survey. Workforce details were obtained from respondents in the September 1978, March 1979 and September 1979 rounds of the survey using a more detailed questionnaire. Vote intention for a House of Representatives election, ratings of Federal politicians and view of economic conditions questions were repeated in the September 1978, March 1979 and September 1979 surveys. Questions on self-government for the A.C.T. were followed up in the September 1978 and March 1979 surveys.)
Sampling Procedure	Systematic random sample A systematic random sample of private addresses was drawn from a list generated from the A.C.T. rates file using a sampling fraction of 1:109. Workforce details were obtained for all persons aged 15 years or more at responding addresses. Addresses were numbered prior to fieldwork and all persons in responding households were listed in the following order: head of household, spouse of head (if present), then remaining household members in descending age order. At single household addresses, the 2nd, 4th, etc., persons aged 18 years and over were selected at even number addresses and the 1st, 3rd, etc., person at odd number addresses. At multiple household addresses, the 2nd, 4th, etc., household would be treated as odd/even if the address was even/odd. Thus approximately half of the adults aged 18 years and over were selected for an individual interview.

Actions to Minimize Losses	Interviewers were hired through advertisements in the local press and were trained by the Survey Research Centre. The hired interviewers were instructed to make at least three calls, at different times, on weekdays and weekends.
